Testing Teachers

Tonight I watched the first part of a new documentary on SBS called ‘Testing Teachers’ . It’s about teachers new to the workforce and their experiences in difficult classrooms. The show was raw and showed the struggles and concerns that the teachers had. As a pre-service teacher with practical next semester, I have to admit it was quite terrifying to watch. One of the teachers said that she learnt something new about herself – “my ability to keep going, even when I feel like I am failing every day… I guess in that is hope that I am getting better.” I wonder how I’ll be as a teacher. I’m looking forward to watching the next part to the documentary.

Visit to pop up Sony Museum in Sydney

I wanted to write something about a recent visit to a pop up Sony Museum. This pop up Museum had key products that Sony had released over the years. You can see some of my photos below. Above is a photo of a digital camera that used a floppy disk for storage. Let’s put this into perspective - the standard storage capacity of a floppy disk was 1.4MB and the image quality of the photos taken by the camera were 0.3 MP. I have to say the TV above was my favourite item on display. I think it was great seeing how technology has changed over time. There is an element of nostalgia when seeing a retrospective exhibition. It transports you a time and allows memories to flow back to life. I have met a lot of people with great stories. I think storytelling is something that engages and brings something to life. A story can bring an abstract object to life and spark conversations between people. The iconic Walkman I left the best till last! The Sony PlayStation Virtual...

Systems Engineering

I thought this was amazing! Systems engineer Amy Underwood has created an autonomous underwater vehicle. This article is a Q & A about her role. I had never heard of a systems engineer and now I want to find out more. I have learnt that being a systems engineer involves taking an interdisciplinary approach to engineering. Check out the article .

Welcome to my blog!

23/03/2017 Hi everyone! I'm Nadiye and I'm currently studying primary education. I've been thinking about blogging again. Today seemed like a great day to get started :) I attended one of a series of workshops this evening organised by my University's Education Society. The workshops are both for pre-service and practicing teachers. During the workshops we will be completing the CSER Digital Technologies online course. Our guest speakers for the night included Sarah from First Australia and Merrylands East Primary School's principle, John. They were both inspiring! Sarah brought along some robots and discussed the programs that First Australia provides. Kids are able to make their own robots and code - how great can it get? This prompted me to reflect on my childhood. I would have dreamt of such an opportunity. There was one time where I made my own papier mache robot as a pinata for my birthday. I had spray painted it silver (this was when you co...
